The former name of Sri Aman is Simanggang which is named after a tree called manggang tree. The manggang tree ia a kind of palm tree that grew at the bank of the river at Simanggang town. The town of Simanggang was opened in 1849 and served as a fort as well as an administrative centre for the government. In 1849, the Raja of Sarawak built a fort called James Fort at the mouth of Skrang River. In 1853, James fort was attached by Rentap, a warrior from the famous Dayak Skrang tribe. However, Rentap and his follows failed to capture the fort. | ||||
Jun 1864, the fort was shifted to Simanggang because the place was more suitable. The fort that was rebuilt was named after Rani Margaret and was called Alice Fort. Alice fort marked the start of development for Simanggang. The first Resident of Simanggang was James Brooke. Araguari Pororoca, Amapa State, Brazil The most impressive pororoca and most feared among the natives. It is reputed to actually form offshore on the vast delta banks. In the spring season of 2001, the river was conquered by the growing pororoca surf industry. Gironde Mascaret, Aquitaine, France Since the disipation of the mighty Seine, the Gironde Mascaret has become dominant, with the Dordogne tributary producing the most impressive wave train in France. Along its course, the Port of St Pardon has become very popular with surfers.
